Running to the gym for a quick workout after work or getting some cardio in before meeting up with the guys? Whatever the case, a bag of gym essentials at the ready can maximize your workout time. We’ve put together a quick list of the must-haves so you can just grab your gym bag and go.
Don’t get weighed down with an oversized bag the size of a small suitcase. A versatile duffle bag that’s easy to carry is all you need.
Now for what to pack. Grab a couple of lightweight, moisture-wicking tees. Whether it’s league night or you’re playing a game of pickup, you may be a little more hesitant than you used to be to split into shirts and skins. That’s why you need a black tee and a white tee so that you can separate teams without having flashbacks to summer camp.
Comfort’s key here. An easy pair of loose-fitting, knit or mesh shorts with an elastic waistband will work for almost any activity.
Taking a spin class? You might want to add in a pair of compression shorts as well.
Live in a cooler climate? Throw in some track pants or joggers to go over your shorts when walking to and from the gym.
Whether you prefer a crew or low-cut style, make sure you’ve got a little extra cushioning made of a breathable mesh and moisture-wicking blend.
What’s your workout strategy? It’ll determine your sneaker choice. Training sneakers with amble support and stability are good for cardio and weights. Go for a lightweight running style if you’re hitting the treadmill. Whatever you choose, look for arch support, midsole cushioning and a sole with good traction.
Now that you have the essentials and there’s still a little room in your bag for a few more things, add in some headphones or ear buds and a high-energy playlist to keep you pumped; a water bottle to keep you hydrated; a small towel; underwear, deodorant and travel-size toiletries if you’re taking a shower before heading out.
