If you can’t get to the dry cleaners before that big meeting or weekend wedding, you can still get that shirt looking crisp by starching at home. In addition to minimizing wrinkling, starch helps your clothing last longer by protecting your garment’s fibers. Just be sure to follow these steps to ensure a polished look.
Step 2: Add 4 Tbsp. cornstarch. Shake to mix.
Step 3: Spray mixture onto clothing item. You can use more or less cornstarch in the recipe, depending on how crisp you want your shirt.
Step 4: Iron item immediately after it has been spray starched.
Step 5: Hang the item separately, before returning it to your closet to allow the starch to set.
As I’m sure you know, not all clothing should be starched. Natural fibers like cotton are usually safe for starching but avoid synthetic fabrics, most of which only require ironing alone. Be sure to consult an expert if you’re unsure in order to avoid ruining a perfectly good shirt.
